Life Goes On
By: Cameron Fields | Cwmbran High School
Let’s go for another try.
I had already been refused as I am too poor to afford a ticket on the boat. How do I get on?
I need to get on board it is my only chance to reunite with my family in Britain. There’s a family over there, I could blend in with them.
I’m on the boat now and I wish I hadn’t got on. Everyone is diseased, even the rats.
We have no rooms or cabins but have to sit on the deck of the boat with no shelter.
There has been bad weather lately so the English Channel is a bit choppy. We haven’t even set off yet and people are already being sick and collapsing.
We have finally set off and people are suffering with boils all over, I can’t wait to get off this boat.
There are rumours that the rats have rabies and are attacking everyone, I don’t think it’s true...
We are close at last, I can see big white walls - probably to defend the British from the Germans We are all getting off the board now and I’m glad not to have caught any diseases, Thank God I’m alive - where do I go now?
I will go to the police station to try and fine someone, anyone to help me.
Yes! I have the address of my cousins I have never met them and even worse they are not expecting me. I hope they can speak French.
I have knocked on the door and found out that my parents are dead. My dad was shot at war and my mum was caught in a zeppelin attack.
My cousins are called Fred Edwards and Sarah Evans - she is married to William Evans - the same first name and initials as me!
I am sad that my parents are dead but I know that life must go on.
